Safety Officer
A Safety Officer ensures workplace safety by identifying hazards. They enforce safety regulations and promote a safe working environment.
Responsibilities Of a Safety Officer
- Risk Assessment & Hazard Identification
- One of safety officer responsibility is to identifying hazards and make risk assessment ( HIRA) and conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
- Implement control measures for high-risk activities.
- Safety Training and Awareness
- Conduct toolbox talks, fire drills and safety induction programs.
- Train worker on PPE usage, emergency procedures and confined space hazards, work at height, hot work and etc.
- Incident Investigation and Reporting
- Incident at workplace analyze them and find root cause of the incident and to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain records as Per legal requirements.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure Compliance with your country or industry type like OSHA, Factories Act, BOCW Act and Environmental laws
- Co-ordinate with Labor inspector and auditors.
- Emergency Preparedness and Response
- Develop Emergency Plans for fire, chemical spills and medical emergencies.
- Conduct Periodic mock drills.
Good Practice for Safety Officers
- Safety Officer should be stay updated with latest safety regulations and industry standards.
- If Possible use safety Management software for tracking incidents and compliance.
- Create Strong safety culture by encouraging worker participation in Tbt (Toolbox Talks), Motivational program , by weekly or monthly training and etc
- Daily site observation to ensure safety measure are effective.
- Top management should support your plan and action to improve workplace safety programs.
